• All-new second-generation A4 allroad quattro offers practical versatility and go-anywhere ability
  • Managing Director, Andrew Doyle: "allroad quattro owners are among our most loyal Audi customers"
  • A first for Australia - new 2.0 TFSI A4 allroad quattro model offered at launch, with the 2.0 TDI to follow later in the year
Australia, 16 September, 2016 – The striking all-new second generation Audi A4 allroad quattro has arrived in Australia, available with a 2.0 TFSI petrol engine for the first time. Distinctive design features, multi-talented utility and an appetite for off-road excursions, the A4 allroad quattro is the perfect vehicle to complement the active Australian lifestyle.

"Versatility is an important function of the entire Audi model range, but the allroad quattro models offer a unique and attractive combination of features that Australian buyers are especially drawn to. The owners of our allroad quattro models are very loyal customers – it's just one of those vehicles that offers a perfect combination of versatility, rugged styling and car-like performance that really works for daily driving ," said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia.

"Most owners lead a very active lifestyle, and the allroad quattro is the perfect complement to this, whether you want  to load up your bike or kayak on the roof, lay the rear seats flat for bulky items or simply just keep on driving when the bitumen ends, it's the effortless versatility that owners really appreciate," said Mr Doyle.

The allroad quattro has its own distinctive styling, evident in the unique flared wheel arches, aluminium-look trim elements and roof rails, as well as an allroad-specific single frame grille. The A4 allroad quattro also has 34mm of additional ground clearance compared to the A4 Avant.

One of the most significant technical innovations that thisA4 allroad quattro brings is the newest generation of the quattro all-wheel-drive system, now with ultra technology. Dynamic and confident handling have always been hallmarks of quattro, however the A4 allroad quattro 2.0 TFSI debuts a new generation that is lighter and brings significant fuel economy benefits.

When all-wheel-drive traction is not required, using only the front axle for propulsion is more efficient. In this case, two clutches disengage to minimise drivetrain torque losses, which in turn, aids fuel efficiency. The first clutch is at the front of the propeller shaft, while the second opens in the rear differential, which saves the drag of the differential drive gear turning in the oil bath. When the sophisticated torque control system detects wheel slip, up to 100 percent torque can be sent to either axle.

To complement this new quattro system, a new drive select program has been developed. In 'auto' mode, the drive select provides the best possible traction and balanced handling. In dynamic mode, power is actively sent to the rear axle sooner and to a larger degree, which improves handling in slippery conditions. In the new 'offroad' setting, the all-wheel drive system is always engaged.

In addition, this new quattro system is also 4 kg lighter than the previous system. The new quattro all-wheel drive system is available exclusively with the 2.0 TFSI engine.

The 2.0 TDI model continues to use the proven permanent quattro drivetrain with the limited-slip centre differential. In most cases, 40 percent of the engine's torque is sent to the front axle, with 60 percent sent to the rear.

Initially, the A4 allroad quattro is only available with the powerful 2.0 TFSI engine – the first time a petrol engine has been offered in any allroad quattro model in Australia. With 185 kW from 5000-6000 rpm and 370 Nm from 1600-4500 rpm, brisk acceleration is assured, reaching 0-100km/h in only 6.1 seconds. Combined fuel consumption is 6.7 L/100km, thanks to the efficiencies of the new quattro with ultra technology, which affords savings by falling under the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold.

Arriving in November 2016, the 2.0 TDI model is set to continue the strong success of this drivetrain combination in the previous generation.

In the new 2.0 TDI model, the engine produces a vigorous 140 kW and 400 Nm, with acceleration and fuel consumption figures of 7.8 seconds and 5.2 L/100km respectively.

Both engines are mated to the smooth-shifting and sporty seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission, which includes a fuel-saving free-wheeling function.

Like its A4 Avant sibling, the new A4 allroad quattro offers 505 litres of luggage space, or 1,510 litres with the rear seats folded flat. It comes standard with the convenient electric tailgate, activated by a sensor-controlled 'kick motion', as well as an electric sliding luggage cover.

A myriad of Audi genuine accessories are also available to allow owners to integrate their active lifestyle with their A4 allroad quattro, like a luggage-securing kit, bike racks, a kayak holder and many others.

The all-new Audi A4 has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, thanks to an impressive array of standard safety features, many of which are unique in segment. These include:

  • Audi pre-sense city with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and pedestrian detection (up to 85 km/h)
  • Exit Warning system
  • Cross traffic assist

  • Audi pre-sense front (collision warning up to 250km/h)
  • Predictive efficiency assistant
  • High-beam assist

As with each all-new model generation from Audi, there was a clear focus on the use of lightweight technology throughout the all-new A4 allroad quattro, resulting in a weight saving of 80kg.

In addition, changes to the suspension architecture were engineered to deliver even better driving characteristics, culminating in the introduction of a five-link rear suspension arrangement. For the first time, the A4 allroad quattro is available with optional adaptive suspension ($1700).

In addition to the standard Audi Connect, with Google Earth navigation capability, the A4 allroad quattro is available with the innovative integrated 'Audi tablet', which allows rear passengers to use the specially developed Android-compatible device to watch movies or play games. It is also fully integrated into the car's infotainment system, so it even possible to 'send' navigation destinations to the driver for one-touch approval. The tablets have been carefully engineered so as not to injure passengers in the event of an accident, and also with anti-reflective low-glare properties, so they can be used in all kinds of daylight. A single Audi tablet costs $2,000, with a pair priced at $3,600.
