Australia's most popular SUV, the Mazda CX-5, now has even more standard i-ACTIVSENSE safety equipment, making it more attractive to new car buyers.

Offered previously as an optional extra, the entry-grade Maxx and core model Maxx Sport now come with Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Smart City Brake Support- Forward (SCBS-F) and a Rear-view mirror with an auto dimming function as standard equipment.

In addition, the high grade GT alternative now includes BSM and RCTA, but adds Smart City Brake Support - Forward/Reverse (SCBS-F/R).

When Mazda's Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system detects any unseen vehicles, an LED icon appears on the driver's side mirror accompanied by a warning beeper. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) assists the driver in recognising approaching cars when reversing from parking spaces, while Smart City Brake Support Forward/Reverse (SCBS F/R) helps prevent low speed accidents.  This system applies pressure to the brakes when it senses a high risk of impact.

The safety updates join the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Traction Control System (TCS), six SRS Airbags and reverse camera, in making the Mazda CX-5 one of the safest SUVs available on the market.

Adding to the value equation, prices for the Maxx and Maxx Sport have come down by $530, and the GT by $360, when compared to the previous model that included the safety option pack.

"We are delighted with the performance of Mazda CX-5 since it arrived on the market in 2012, it has certainly been embraced by many, many thousands of Australians," said Mazda Australia marketing director Alastair Doak.
"Safety is becoming more and more important to buyers, particularly technology like Smart City Brake Support which is now standard on the entire CX-5 range.

"Adding even more value will keep the Mazda CX-5 at the top of the list for many prospective customers."

Mazda CX-5 is available in four grades, the Maxx, Maxx Sport, GT and range-topping Akera, with a choice of three powertrains including the SKYACTIV-G 2.0L and 2.5 litre petrol and a SKYACTIV-D 2.2L diesel engine. Offered in Front-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive, and mated to a SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed auto or SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed manual transmission, it comes in eight contemporary colours and four interior trims.
