For the first time ever all three Mazda SUVs enjoyed record sales in the one month, according to VFACTS figures released today.

New Mazda CX-3, Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 and Brand-New Mazda CX-9 each posted new benchmarks for the month of May, with SUVs accounting for over 46 per cent of total Mazda sales.

Last month, Mazda sold a Mazda May record of 9,903 passenger cars, SUVs and utes, giving the nation's leading full-line import brand a 9.6 per cent market share.

Year-To-Date (YTD), Mazda has sold 48,995 vehicles, up one per cent Year-On-Year (YOY) for a 10.5 per cent slice of the Australian auto market.

For the second consecutive month since it went on sale, the Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 enjoyed record sales with 2,298 being driven out of Mazda showrooms. Australia's most popular SUV, Mazda CX-5 sales are up 4.9 per cent YOY, with 10,437 vehicles sold YTD.

Recently getting an update, and now including Smart City Brake Support - Forward and Reverse (SCBS F/R) as standard across the entire range - the only car in its segment to offer this - the Mazda CX-3 returned to its recent lofty sales heights, with a May record 1,542 sales. Like the CX-5 it tops its segment as the country's favourite small SUV.

The Brand-New Mazda CX-9 also continues to attract interest, with it too hitting new May highs with 770 sales last month. Five months in, and with 3,723 sales YTD, the popular large SUV is closing in on its 2016 full year record of 5,123 retails.

Mazda3 was once again the company's best performing vehicle with 2,594 sales last month, up 12 per cent from April; the Mazda2, which now boasts more standard safety than any of its competitors, recorded 1,113 retails, while the Mazda6's 275 May sales maintains its place as the nation's favourite mid-sized import under $60,000.

Mazda MX-5 - available with a choice of a soft or a retractable fastback hardtop - also had a record May with 169 sales, while Mazda, with a shortage of stock, sold 1,142 of its tough BT-50 ute.

Mazda Australia managing director, Vinesh Bhindi said: "We are extremely happy to see such strong sales across the Mazda SUV range, plus a return to the numbers that we would expect from Mazda2 with the arrival of the updated model. In only its second month on the market the Next-Gen Mazda CX-5 has again set a new monthly record and Mazda CX-9 just keeps attracting buyers. Showroom traffic is also up as customers take advantage of the great value end of financial year deals offered on BT-50, Mazda6 and Mazda3 - which continues through to the end of June."
