To celebrate the launch of the iconic Model Year 2016 WRX, Subaru has combined the turbocharged excitement of driving the performance vehicle with the power of music. With the notion that music connects drivers to their cars, and the vehicles of their past, Disciple, Subaru Australia's creative agency, developed the idea of replacing the WRX accelerator pedal with an iconic guitar Wah pedal.

Subaru technicians combined the functionality of both the Wah pedal and the accelerator, to work simultaneously.

With the help of up-and-coming Australian musician, Harts, playing original guitar riffs in the spacious backseat of the WRX, a driver used the Wah pedal to accelerate the vehicle whilst manipulating the guitar's sound.

Proving that music is an integral part of the driving experience, the W-Wah-X was born.

Subaru's iconic WRX offers a new layer of safety technology in Model Year 2016 variants.

Already enjoying sales success on a par with its late '90s peak, the new generation WRX comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, while WRX Premium has added a suite of new Vision Assist technologies including:

  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Lane Change Assist
  • Auto dimming rear view mirror
  • High Beam Assist
  • Side View Monitor
    • Built into the passenger wing mirrors, so hard-to-see parts of the vehicle can be checked
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
    • Detects passing vehicles when reversing from parking spaces
  • Power folding wing mirrors

Andrew Caie, Subaru's General Manager of Marketing, said: "This was an original project that grew out of that classic feeling of barrelling along in a great driving car with a great music track and the volume blasting.

That's what made it fun for the team, including Harts. Harts brought no airs and graces with him. All we had to do was throw in a few really passionate technical people, crew, musos - and a WRX of course - and away it went.

This is a very different type of performance from an iconic car that also delivers exceptional comfort, safety and practicality."
