A new diesel engine and range of updated features mark the arrival of the MY13 Volvo XC60 range.

Complementing the existing engine range and further cementing Volvo's position in the Australian luxury SUV segment, the new XC60 D4 will sit alongside the T5 to double the front-wheel-drive options in the XC60 range.

Powered by a five-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, the new D4 produces a useful 120kW at 3500rpm and an impressive 400Nm at 2500-4600rpm. Fuel consumption is just 6.9 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are just 182g/km.

Other changes unique to MY13 XC60 include the following safety features, further reinforcing Volvo's long-standing, class-leading and innovative approach to active safety.

Active High Beam
The purpose of Active High Beam is to enable automatic activation of high beam and dipped beam in order to illuminate the traffic environment for the driver without causing glare for other road users.

Active High Beam registers oncoming traffic and traffic in front of the car by using the camera in the forward-sensing module housed in the top of the windscreen.

The camera monitors other vehicles and their headlights and tail-lights. Advanced image processing software analyses this data and provides information about the position and direction of other vehicles. The calculation serves as the basis for automatic switching between dipped and high beam.

Active High Beam is included in the optional Driver Alert System.

Road Sign Information
Studies from the European Road Safety Observatory show that speed is a contributing factor in 20 percent of all fatal road accidents.

The new Road Sign Information system assists and supports the driver by displaying speed limits and other selected road sign information in the instrument panel.

By utilising the integrated forward-facing camera, detected speed limits are shown until a new speed sign is detected. The system can also warn the driver if applicable speed limits are exceeded by gently flashing the sign in the display three times.

The system can also recognise supplementary signs that may occur, such as no overtaking signs.

RSI is included in the optional Driver Alert System, and Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Autobrake option.

Auto Headlights / Tunnel Detection
This function will automatically turn on the headlights when the car enters a tunnel, or when the sensors detect a change in external lighting conditions at dawn and dusk.

Auto Headlights / Tunnel Detection is combined with the Rain Sensor option.

Other new additions for the MY13 XC60 range include a standard illuminated gearshift, updated camera as part of the Collision Warning with Full Autobrake and Pedestrian Detection system, revised number graphics for the badging on the rear of the vehicle, grocery bag holder, a vibrant new colour, Rebel Blue, and optional 20-inch AVIOR alloy wheels.

Meanwhile, the next-generation of Volvo's ground-breaking and standard City Safety collision avoidance technology - a world-first when it was launched - has also been upgraded for MY13, and now works up to speeds of 50km/h.

NRMA Insurance and other companies operating under the Insurance Australia Group banner recognise the benefits of City Safety, and will offer a reduction of up to 20 percent on insurance premiums to those cars fitted with City Safety.

In summary, the XC60 range is better equipped and offers more variations than ever before, securing Volvo's commanding position in the Australian premium SUV segment.
