THE CONCEPT RS 660 IS THE FIRST EVOLUTIONARY STEP TOWARDS EXPANDING THE APRILIA RANGE WITH YET ANOTHER PERFORMANCE SPORTSBIKE.
WITH CUTTING-EDGE AERODYNAMICS, ADVANCED ELECTRONICS AND A NEW TWIN-CYLINDER ENGINE THE RS 660 WILL REDEFINE APRILIA'S VALUES FOR A NEW GENERATION OF RIDERS.
This new model is defined by potent but easy-to-manage engine characteristics, a frame and suspension par excellence and exceptional power to weight ratio. It will meet the demand of new generations for fun bikes that are capable of thrilling on the road as well as on the occasional track day. The result is a unique technology enriched motorcycle with a mid-sized twin-cylinder engine that is attractive to young riders who are stepping up from smaller sized machines and looking for a high level sport bike that can provide thrills and fun on a day to day basis.
The design: cutting-edge aerodynamics
Aprilia Concept RS 660 stands out for its ultra-modern style. The innovative and sophisticated body work has been developed from a series of aerodynamic studies in the wind tunnel. The riding position benefits from a large saddle located on the sleek tail fairing, well positioned footpegs and clip on handlebars with a sporty yet comfortable saddle-handlebar-footpeg triangulation.
Aprilia chassis architecture
Aprilia's chassis engineering is recognised the world over. The aluminium frame and swingarm exploits the engine as a stressed element, contributing to overall stiffness and weight reduction. The mounting position of the shock absorber allows outstanding progression to be obtained without using linkage thereby reducing weight and making it a cleaner package overall.
A new parallel twin-cylinder for a new generation of bikes
RS 660 was born around the concept of a new compact 660 cc parallel twin-cylinder engine that Aprilia engineers have derived from the 1100 cc V4 that powers the Tuono V4 and RSV4 1100 Factory. This configuration was chosen for its compact nature, efficiency and the extremely low level of heat transmitted to the rider. The architecture also provides freedom for the designers to create a sleek and lightweight chassis.
The RS 660 project is the development base for a wider range that intends to make Aprilia a key player in an extremely strategic market segment in Europe, but also in Asia and the American market. Details on pricing and arrival in Australia for Aprilia's concept RS 660 will be released when available.
