- Audi A3 Sedan earns Top Safety Pick+ following IIHS testing
- A3 Sedan scores top rating in all crash disciplines
- Over 400 Audi A3 Sedans sold in Australia in Q1, 2014
Ingolstadt, April 8, 2014 – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Audi A3 Sedan* Top Safety Pick+. This rating confirms that the new model is one of the safest automobiles on the US market.
The IIHS awarded the Audi A3 Sedan the top score of "Good" in all crash disciplines rated. The rating is based on a frontal collision with 40 percent overlap (moderate overlap), a frontal collision with 25 percent overlap (small overlap), a side impact, roof strength and a rear impact.
"The Top Safety Pick+ award for the A3 Sedan impressively illustrates the importance Audi attaches to the issue of safety," said Joachim Scheef, Head of Vehicle Safety Development at AUDI AG.
Audi also places great importance on active safety. The IIHS awarded the A3 Sedan an "Advanced" rating for Audi pre sense front. The system informs the driver when the safety interval to the vehicle ahead becomes too small. In critical situations, the electronic assistant warns the driver and initiates automatic emergency braking, if necessary. That reduces the speed at impact or, in the best case, helps to prevent an accident entirely.
If the collision is inevitable, the brake assist uses controlled braking maneuvers during the accident to prevent secondary collisions. This can help to prevent the car from skidding and thus additional collisions.
The Audi A3 Sedan was launched in Australia in January, with over 400 vehicles sold in only the first few months of the year. It is expected to follow in the highly successful footsteps of its Sportback sibling, becoming one of the most-popular compact premium vehicles in the Audi range.
In Australia, the new-generation A3 range received the highest score of any small car on the market in ANCAP evaluation, receiving 36.41 points out of a possible 37. It was awarded the maximum 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
