BMW Motorrad Australia has announced local pricing for the
much-anticipated R 1200 R, the successor to the immensely popular R
1150 R.
The new BMW will be priced at $18,750 plus dealer delivery and on
road costs, when machines arrive in October.
Standard Australian equipment will include heated handgrips, and
as with previous Boxer-powered Roadsters, there will be a huge
range of factory and dealer fitted accessories with which customers
can personalise their purchase.
The 1,170 cc Boxer twin power powering the R 1200 R is shared
with the
R 1200 RT and develops a healthy 80 kW, a substantial 28 percent
more power than the R 1150 R. An engine the oil cooler is fitted
behind the wheel fork.
The rear section of the tubular spaceframe has been specially
developed for the Roadster, helping to give the entire rear
end a light and nimble appearance and reducing the overall weight
of the machine to just 198kg dry or 223 kg fully fuelled and ready
to ride.
Stacked with advanced technology, the BMW Roadster sets new
standards, further underlining BMW's claim to leadership in
road safety.
And for the first time the new model features the new
generation of BMW Motorrad Integral ABS, which may be combined as
an option with ASC Anti-Slip Control, when it becomes available in
Australia in March 2007.
"The R 1200 R neatly integrates a traditional BMW model
with the latest in BMW innovation," said Mac McMath, General

"Its light weight, nimble handling, and powerful engine
combine to deliver extremely satisfying performance, typical of BMW
Roadsters. But it also plays host to the very latest BMW technology
such as the new generation Anti-Lock Brakes and our innovative
Anti-Slip Control traction feature which will enhance riding safety
in a variety of conditions.
"The new BMW R 1200 R will thus appeal to a wide range of
motorcycle enthusiasts," Mac said.
