Three times Australian Superbike Champion, Glenn Allerton, will join the Penz13.com BMW Racing Team in the Open class of this weekend's round of the FIM World Endurance Championship at Le Mans.

The famous 24 Hour race will provide a fitting backdrop for the final round of the 2014 World Endurance season, starting Saturday 20th September at 3pm and finishing Sunday 21st September at 3pm.

Allerton will join the Penz13.com Open Team and share the BMW S 1000 RR with experienced American endurance rider, Jason Pridmore and BMW Motorrad Italia WSBK rider Sylvain Barrier.

It's a small world in motorcycle racing, as Allerton replaced Barrier at the season kick-off of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island back in February this year.

Well familiar with the BMW S 1000 RR, Allerton took out the 2011 and 2014 ASBK Championships for the Dynotech Pirelli BMW Team.

"This is a great opportunity to ride in the most famous 24 Hour race. It will be a test for all the team but the BMW S 1000 RR has proved itself in the Endurance class and I am looking forward to a successful weekend," said Allerton.

Rico Penzkofer, Penz13.com Team Principal, said, 'The Open-squad more or less is testing under real racing conditions for 2015. We've been thinking about a step up to the EWC category for quite a while and this will be our first attempt - but not only an attempt. Our highest priority has to be to finish the race so we can collect as much data as possible for the upcoming season. Looking at our strong rider's line-up we of course also hope to be involved at the sharp end of the race."
