BMW Motorrad Italia GoldBet's Sylvain Barrier has taken out the
2012 FIM Superstock 1000 Cup on his BMW S 1000 RR.
Starting the final round at Magny-Cours with a slim 3-point lead
in the Championship, Barrier rode a controlled race in extremely
wet and slippery conditions to finish in 2nd place and grab the
title in front of his home crowd.
The 23-year old Frenchman finished the season with four race
wins, six podiums and seven pole positions. In the middle of the
season he suffered a major shoulder injury that sidelined him for
several rounds but with dedication and determination Barrier fought
his way back into contention, grabbing the lead in the race to the
Championship at the penultimate round in
Portimão.
This is the second success in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup for
BMW Motorrad Italia following Ayrton Badovini's victory in
2010.
"I still cannot believe I have won the title. The hard work done
with the team throughout the season has paid off and I want to
thank the guys, my family, my mentor James Toseland, the Clinica
Mobile and everyone who supported me during the year. It's been a
fabulous week-end and I am over the moon!" said an excited Sylvain
Barrier.
"The result achieved today in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup is
amazing. We built on our success from 2010 and won the title again
thanks to a very top-level team, a rider of unquestionable talent -
who was able to grow and mature even more - and a bike that proved
once more to be the best not only in the worldwide market but also
on track" said Andrea Buzzoni, General Manager BMW Motorrad
Italia.
