Brian Hilton Motorsport's Josh Hunter has called for tighter driver standards in the Toyota 86 Racing Series after a weekend of biff and barge at the opening round of the championship, while teammate Luke King is ruing over an incident which saw him taken out of contention in the third race.

Hunter ended the weekend in 15th, with Drew Ridge 17th and Gerard Maggs 23rd, while King was forced to watch from the sidelines after being spun by contact from Jon McCorkindale - which sent flying off track before a metal grate on lying in the grass tore the front right suspension out of his Toyota 86.

Hunter was forced to fight his way through the field over the weekend after being spun in the opening 10-lap sprint, ultimately making his way back to 18th in the final race in the #2 Castrol backed car, passing six cars in the shortened sprint.

"It was like a pinball machine out there. Everyone was out of control and we got caught in the middle of it. I got a whack in the side, hit from behind and it put our suspension out of line, which hampered our progress," Hunter said.

"There was a lot of bumping and running, and I don't think I witnessed a clean pass so driver standards definitely need to be looked at ahead of Sydney Motorsport Park.

"The cars were great and we showed there is plenty to come from Brian Hilton Motorsport, so we just need to qualify up the front and be clear of all the carnage."

King was naturally dejected to have his weekend brought to such an abrupt end following an entertaining dice in the opening laps.

"It started off as a good battle with McCorkindale. He got a better start but it was obvious I was quicker than him and I put a clean move on him through turn three, straightened up only to cop a knock on the rear three-quarter panel," King said.

"That sent me off track, and there was a metal grate lying in the grass, which caused extensive damage to the suspension and steering.

"It's disappointing to end like this but we know the Brian Hilton Motorsport Toyotas are quick, and I think we can unlock even more pace for Sydney."

In the #22 Brian Hilton Motorsport car, Drew Ridge leaves Winton with a sense of achievement after moving his way from 23rd to 17th in the final race.

"We had plenty of pace in the last race. My crew Jeff, Ben and Nigel made some changes last night and it's the best the car has felt all weekend," Ridge said.

"The safety car halted our progress but we're moving forward now, and we'll look to improve at Eastern Creek."

World's Best Technology/Samsung's Maggs ended the weekend on a high note after recording his best result of 23rd.

"I achieved what I set out to achieve. Josh [Hunter] gave me some pointers last night, and my results today show far I've come along this weekend."

"The car just felt amazing in the final race, and I was starting to pick off other cars. I just wish the safety car never came out!"

Brian Hilton Motorsport heads to Sydney Motorsport Park from 26-28 August for round two of the Toyota 86 Racing Series.
