• Citroen Cactus most named efficient compact SUV according to Government's Green Vehicle Guide
  • Most efficient non-hybrid or electric five-seater available in Australian market
  • Outstanding results driven by engineering focus

When it goes on sale in Australia from March the all-new Citroen C4 Cactus will become the most efficient non-hybrid or electric 5 seat vehicle available for purchase locally, according to the Federal Government's Green Vehicle Guide (GVG) – in fact, it will be the most efficient compact SUV available.

In nature Cacti are known as plants which use few resources and the automotive version is no different. The 1.6 litre turbo-diesel-powered Cactus will use just 3.7-litres of diesel per 100 kilometres while emitting less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometre; figures unmatched by some hybrid vehicles.

The outstanding fuel and emissions figures are the result of significant engineering focus to reduce weight and improve efficiency of the entire vehicle.

Over 200 kilograms of weight has been saved from the C4 Cactus compared to similarly-sized Citroen vehicles, with 175kg of that total from vehicle hardware (including body, suspension and drivetrain), while the remaining was achieved via the adoption of all-digital instrumentation and vehicle control systems.

The focus on weight savings resulted in development of a new system to wash windscreens, dubbed Magic Wash, which improves vision and reduces the need for a large water reservoir and saving 1.5 kilograms in the process.

The diesel drivetrain is paired to a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission that is lighter and more efficient than full-fluid automatic transmissions, aiding the overall low fuel figures.

The Cactus' most striking design feature is Citroen's innovative AirBump system, and they pack just as much engineering as they do cutting-edge style.

AirBumps have been designed to protect the vehicle from external threats, including trolleys, bollards and other vehicle doors, by employing advanced polymer protection panel.

National Marketing Manager for Citroen Australia, Dimitri Andreatidis, said the all-new Cactus brings with it a number of segment, market and industry firsts.

"The Citroen C4 Cactus is a vehicle that ushers in a range of advanced design and engineering solutions, combining to deliver one of the most efficient and striking vehicles available today," says Andreatidis.

"From the outset the Citroen Cactus has been designed to reduce weight and wastage, while increasing efficiency and the latest Green Vehicle Guide figures reinforce that focus."

The Citroen Cactus is also available in an efficient yet powerful turbo-petrol 1.2-litre PureTech drivetrain, paired to a manual transmission.

Arriving in March the Citroen C4 Cactus will carry a recommended retail price of $26,990 for the turbo-petrol manual and $29,990 for the turbo-diesel semi-automatic.
