Commuters who have rejected scooters as being impractical
transport might doubt that a 16,000 kilometre, 15 day
round-Australia attempt on a scooter could possibly succeed.
But that is exactly what Julio Languiller is hoping to do on his
Honda Silverwing.
Julio is already a bit of a legend in scooter circles with three
24 hour records attempts under his belt. He says that the
circumnavigation will be just like those three records, but back to
back, over fifteen days.
"Scooters are a fantastic tool for commuting, but we are out to
prove that they are actually a great way to get around, whether
that's to the shops or to the Cape," he said. "We are lucky to have
arranged for Honda's new maxi-scooter, the 600cc Silverwing which
will make the 1,000+ km days a lot easier."
"The Honda Silverwing is supremely comfortable and stable and,
with great fuel economy and a 16 litre fuel tank, an amazing
range," he said.
Julio will be flagged away on his epic journey by Melbourne Lord
Mayor, John So, confirming Melbourne's reputation as Australia's
most motorcycle friendly city.
He departs at 9.30am on Sunday 6 August from Federation
Square.
Over the next 15 days, Julio will follow Highway 1, stopping at
each State capital, except Hobart. His longest day, from Port
Hedland to Halls Creek will be 1,378 kilometres of remote outback
roads.
He is being supported by Western QBE, Honda, Motorcycling
Australia, Motorcycle Riders Association and bikesales.com.
