LEADING independent importer of American vehicles Performax International is appointing dealers in several States for the first time to help grow its business.

The Queensland company is calling for expressions of interest from potential dealers in several areas, including metropolitan Melbourne, and already has made appointments in New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia.

The move reflects Performax International's status as the number one importer and conversion specialist for vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado, Camaro and Corvette and the Ford Mustang.

With a record of more than 20 years in this specialised area of the motor industry and ISO 9001 Quality Assured certification, Performax currently produces more than 200 vehicles a year to original equipment standards of finish and driveability and with full Australian Design Rule compliance.

Earlier this year it opened an additional 2500 square metre factory in Gympie, just north of the Sunshine Coast, which is dedicated to line-production of its biggest seller, the Chev Silverado sports truck.

General Manager Glenn Soper said the high-quality design, engineering and manufacturing systems introduced in recent years meant Performax International was ready to expand its production.

"Performax has created an Australia-wide reputation for the quality of its road-ready vehicles and consequently demand is growing, particularly at the moment with the favourable US dollar exchange rate," Mr Soper said.

"A dealer network, allowing customers to try, buy and service their cars in their home State, is the next stage in our growth and it confirms our position as the biggest and most experienced independent vehicle importer in the country.

"We've always directly supplied our vehicles to customers Australia-wide, but the influx of enquiries, especially from Victoria, the Sydney metro area and Newcastle have prompted us to seek agents in these areas.

"First and foremost, we will be seeking expressions of interest from dealerships in the Melbourne metro region, ideally with a location with convenient access to the Ring Road, Tullamarine Airport and Geelong to ensure convenience for ‘out-of-towners'.

"We will be seeking further expressions of interest from dealerships in the Sydney metro and Newcastle areas."

The first two dealer appointments, Crick Performax in Launceston and McAlister Motors in Young, NSW, are already operating.

Performance West, in Perth, will begin operations soon.

Mr Soper said the Performax International range and especially the Silverado sports trucks would enhance the line-up of any dealership wishing to attract a wider target market, including customers from the mining, rural, construction and building industries, large caravan and fifth-wheeler owners and boating, fishing and equestrian enthusiasts.

Agents would have peace of mind knowing they were dealing with Australia's leading importer, converter and retailer of American performance vehicles, which offered a second-to-none aftersales service and demonstrated faith in its own product by underwriting its own warranties.
