• All Peugeot 208, 308, 2008, 3008 and forthcoming 5008 models to feature Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard
  • Leading edge safety system to compliment standard reverse camera across entire range
  • New standard specification offered free-of charge to customers
  • ANCAP commend Peugeot safety upgrades

Peugeot Australia will fit as standard Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) across its entire Australian line-up*, free of charge – with one model further benefitting from a price reduction.

All models and variants across the marques 208, 308, 2008, 3008 and forthcoming 5008 range will feature the leading-edge safety equipment as standard.

Managing Director of Peugeot Australia, Anouk Poelmann said that the standardisation of AEB demonstrates Peugeot's commitment to Australian customers.

"Autonomous Emergency Braking is an invaluable safety feature that Peugeot believes should be available to all of our customers," said Poelmann.

"Furthermore, we believe that you cannot put a price on safety which is why we are adding the leading-edge safety system free of charge to all our customers.

"AEB will compliment the already standard fitment of reverse camera across the Peugeot range and the high-level of structural safety our vehicle range possess." said Poelmann.

Commenting on the announcement, ANCAP Chief Executive, Mr James Goodwin said.

"Autonomous emergency braking is a vital safety assist technology and Peugeot Australia is to be commended for this commitment to make AEB standard across its entire Australian model range." said Goodwin.

"Safety is not a luxury and having AEB as a standard offering provides enhanced safety to consumers," he said.

Depending on model, Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEB) works by determining the risk of collision with a vehicle or pedestrian through the use of a windscreen mounted camera, or depending on the model in combination with a front facing radar.

AEB activates if the driver fails to react in a timely manner by sounding an audible warning, then applying the brakes.

It helps avoid or reduce the severity of an impact by reducing vehicle speed without any action on the part of the driver.

The system reacts to both stationary and moving vehicles travelling in the same direction and also to pedestrians on the road. (At this stage of development it does not detect bicycles, motorcycles, animals, or inanimate objects.)

The latest generation Automatic Emergency Braking System (AEBS) fitted as standard to 3008 and 5008 is enabled when the vehicle is moving at speeds of:

  • between 5 and 140 km/h if another moving vehicle is detected;
  • under 80 km/h if a stationary vehicle is detected;
  • below 60 km/h if a pedestrian is detected.

For all other models, the system will bring the vehicle to a complete stop, however speed thresholds vary.

The all-new Peugeot 5008 SUV will launch at the beginning of February in Australia. For further information about Peugeot products visit www.peugeot.com.au.

*Standard fitment of AEB excludes existing vehicle stocks and GTi models.
