- Total auction sales of $17.5 million
- NSW black and white early number plates contribute more than $7.6m million in sales

Rare black and while numeric number plates attracted most of the big money at Shannons Timed Online Summer Auction that concluded this week, with a total of nearly $12 million spent on early New South Wales, Victorian and Queensland tinware.
The top-seller of the 283 lots in the seven-day sale was the early Victorian number plate '80', which sold for $1,601.00 – more than three times that paid for the top-selling car, a 1971 Ford Falcon XY GT-HO Phase III that brought $451,000.
Meanwhile a previous award-winning, restored 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 V8 coupe went for $245,000, a fully-restored 1969 Holden HK Monaro GTS 307 Coupe went for $255,000 and a 2001Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph saloon also exceeded its high estimate to sell for $169.000.
A detail-specific replica GT-HO Phase III based on an XY Falcon sold for $98,000, while a right hand drive 2000 model Dodge Viper RT/10 coupe sold for $99,000.
Early number plates from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland contributed a combined $11,975.50 to the overall $17.4 million auction result, in which 70 per cent of all lots sold.
Other outstanding number plate sales were $421,000 for NSW '992' (the current Porsche 911 type designation); $379,000 for the hallowed NSW Chevrolet and Holden engine capacity number '327' and $251,000 and $232,000 respectively for the current year NSW and VIC plates '2023'.
Amongst the cars, other standout sales included $274,000 for a 1980 Aston Martin V8 Volante Convertible, $166,000 for a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette C1 fuel injected convertible, a record-setting $100,000 for a for a two-owner 1971 Chrysler VG Valiant 245 Pacer that has had a documented $55,000 spent on its body restoration and $42,500 for a 1980 Leyland Mini Moke Californian that had received a bare metal restoration.
Amongst the 47 motorcycles and scooters in the auction, the top money paid was the $45,000 paid for a 1973 Kawasaki Z1A 900, while $36,000 was given for a 1942 WLA750 Harley-Davidson configured as a Police motorcycle.
Several lots sold with 'no reserve' and offered in 'project' condition brought good prices, with a 1998 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta coupe requiring some mechanical work selling for $129,000, a 'barnfind' 1958 German Messerschmitt KR200 microcar in need of a total restoration selling for $20,500 and a tired, but largely original and running 1949 MG TC bringing $24,500.
