Basic Site Navigation and Site Description Back to Contents

Truckdeadline has been designed to facilitate the easiest possible access to the information it contains. Almost everything you need to access is one mouse click away.

The banner across the top contains the Site Search and links to Home, Photos, Releases, Videos, Lightbox, Help, Contact Us, Links, RSS, Register and My Details.

The left navigation column contains all the navigation functions and the main page contains the relevant content including text, images and video.

How do I Move Around The Site? - The Left Navigation Column Back to Contents

The left navigation column has been designed for you to quickly and easily move around Truckdeadline.

Access to all of the information housed on Truckdeadline can be achieved by using the buttons in the left navigation column.

When you are on Truckdeadline's home page, the left column only displays the list of manufacturers whose information can be accessed on the site and a list of partner sites.

The list of all brands associated with Truckdeadline remains in the left column at all times enabling you to switch between manufacturers with one click.

Once you've clicked into an individual brand's section of Truckdeadline the left column expands to display more navigational options and you'll see only that manufacturers information in the main page.

At the top of the left column you'll find the manufacturers logo. By clicking on this logo at any time you will return to the manufacturers home page, which displays the latest releases, latest photos and latest video.

Underneath the client's logo, the left column is broken into two sections that are specific to the brand, the list of all other brands and the list of partner sites.

The section between the brand's logo and 'Current Models' contains a search function, brand contacts, corporate information, press kits and other categories specific to that manufacturer.

The search function here will only search information found within the manufacturer's section of Truckdeadline. As with the main search function on the top banner, you can elect to search for all types of content or only for text, photos or video.

Below this section is a list of 'Current Models' produced by the manufacturer. By clicking on a particular model, the main page will display the press kit and any press releases, photos and <video that relate to that specific model.

How Can I Get The Most Effective Search? Back to Contents

There are two Searches available on the site.

The main search function is found on the top banner and will search the entire site for the information entered in the text box. You can elect to search for all content on Truckdeadline or you can search exclusively for text, photos or video by using the drop down box to the left of the search field.

The other search function is found in the left navigation column of each brand's section of Truckdeadline. This search function will only search for content specific to that brand.

To search for media, simply enter the search term(s) into the search box. When more than one term is entered, Truckdeadline will search for instances where both terms are contained within the content.

Special Operators

+ Plus Sign. Placing a plus sign in the front of a search term makes that a required term in the results.

- Minus Sign. Placing a minus sign in the front of a search term requires that it not be contained in the results. Searching for just a single term with a minus sign will return empty results (e.g., -motegi will return nothing).

* Asterisk. Placing an asterisk (or star) after a word causes it to search for a wildcard (e.g., apple* will return applesauce, apples, etc.).

Home - What Does This Button Do? Back to Contents

Lightbox - What is it and Why Do I Need It? Back to Contents

How often do you need to download more than one image to go with a story or collect lots of information from different parts of the site?

Lightbox allows you to earmark multiple files and view them on your personal lightbox before downloading.

All files on Truckdeadline can be added to your Lightbox allowing you to compile a selection complete with stories, images and even video.

If you choose to add a file to your Lightbox you will be asked for your username and password. This gives you access to your own individual Lightbox.

Your Lightbox is accessed by clicking on the LIGHTBOX button on the top banner.

Any time you see a Add to Lightbox Icon you can add that file to your Lightbox. Simply click onto the Add to Lightbox Icon and the next time you view your Lightbox that file will be there.

Images that have been added to the Lightbox are highlighted with a coloured border, providing you with an instant visual reminder of images already loaded into the Lightbox while you are navigating the site.

Once you've clicked the 'Add to Lightbox' icon it will change to Remove From Lightbox Icon. By clicking on this icon the selected item will be removed from the Lightbox.

You are able to remove Lightbox items while navigating the site and from within your Lightbox by clicking on the Remove From Lightbox Icon

Once you have made your final selection of desired content from within your Lightbox you're ready to either download the files or email them.

You can download or email each item individually by clicking the relevant button underneath the file.

After you've finished with your Lightbox selection you can empty the Lightbox in readiness for your next session by clicking on the 'Empty Lightbox' button.

Content loaded into your Lightbox will remain there until you remove it. This means your Lightbox selection will still be available when you next log-in, in case you have to leave Truckdeadline before downloading or emailing your selection.

RSS - What's that and do I need it? Back to Contents

An RSS feed is a little XML web page that contains the headline, description, date and time of each new item that's been posted onto Truckdeadline.

This page can be left active on your desktop.

You'll need to install software called an 'RSS reader' onto your machine then connect that to Truckdeadline. Once that's done, all you need to do is click the 'update' button in your RSS reader and it'll go and find out if updates have been made. Your reader comes back with the new stuff and you choose what you want to read.

This feature is very handy if checking multiple websites is part of your daily routine. An RSS feed can save time and ease the pain of hitting multiple sites - especially if there's nothing new to see.

What Happens When I Email Something? Back to Contents

Truckdeadline provides registered users with the option of emailing files to editors or imaging departments.

This feature is particularly handy for large files and has been designed for users with slow Internet connections. It can also be used in conjunction with Lightbox for when you need multiple files downloaded.

The email function works by sending the download link to your editor. Emailing your selection eliminates the possibility of production department downloading the wrong file.

Once you've decided on the file you'd like downloaded simply click on the Email Item icon and enter the email address of the recipient, your email and a message. They don't need to navigate Truckdeadline to find the file you want downloaded, they simply click on the link in the email and the download page for your selected file appears in their Internet browser.

The recipient of the email doesn't need to be registered to Truckdeadline as the only way to receive one of these emails is from a registered user. Recipients are given two download credits over five days to retrieve the file you would like downloaded.
