Zetland, July 15, 2020 – Audi Australia welcomes the return of its iconic uber-wagon, the RS 4 Avant, and dynamically sporty siblings, the RS 5 Coupé and RS 5 Sportback. These highly-dynamic all-rounders boast sharper design aesthetics, state-of-the-art technology, exceptional performance and outstanding equipment levels.
"The Audi RS 4 and RS 5 performance vehicles occupy a sweet spot in the Audi RS range, offering an outstanding combination of striking street presence, functional useability, impressive equipment and of course, an extraordinary driving experience,' said Paul Sansom, Managing Director of Audi Australia.
The new RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Coupé and RS 5 Sportback offer a strikingly new exterior design. The iconic Singleframe is significantly wider and flatter, evoking similar characteristics to its larger siblings in the Audi RS range. The radiator grille with its RS-specific honeycomb structure features a sleek gloss black design, fringed with air vents – reminiscent of the classic Audi Sport quattro from 1984.
Standard equipment features highlight these new aesthetics, including metallic paint, 20-inch Audi Sport wheels, gloss red RS brake calipers and RS sports exhaust system with gloss black oval tailpipes. The gloss black exterior appearance package is standard, with matt aluminium available for no extra charge.
The RS 5 Coupe and Sportback come equipped with the very best in progressive lighting technology, with the Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light. The darkened, lower segment of the headlight includes the laser spot and a large, X-shaped metal aperture with an exposed blue light guide. The laser spot is activated at a speed of 70 km/h and further extends the range of the high beam, which already boasts particularly high performance. The RS 4 Avant comes equipped with Matrix LED headlights, and all models have the Coming Home and Leaving Home feature, whereby a dynamic light sequence plays in the headlights and rear lights when the car is locked and unlocked.
Inside the cabin, the new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are luxuriously appointed, with a decidedly sporty edge. Details such as RS sport seats in fine Nappa leather with honeycomb stitching, stainless steel pedals, illuminated RS door trims, extended upholstery package, the flat-bottomed RS multifunction sport steering wheel underscore the character of these high-performance models in the interior. Both the new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback feature interior surface accents in an elegant black gloss finish as standard.
Comfort items such as heated electric seats with 4-way lumbar support and massage function, convenience key, privacy glass, panoramic sunroof and electric tailgate with gesture control (except Coupé) ensure these RS models are always a pleasurable drive.
Infotainment and connectivity are where the new RS 4 Avant, RS 5 Sportback, and RS 5 Coupé really shine, both models equipped with high-value features. Special RS displays in the standard Audi virtual cockpit plus provide information on tyre pressure, torque and g-forces, enhanced by the contemporary new 10.1-inch MMI touch display. Additionally, both models offer Audi Smartphone Interface, Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System (19 speakers, 755 watts), Digital radio DAB+ and Audi phone box light for the convenience of wireless charging. Audi connect plus infotainment, connectivity, security and safety functions are standard, thanks to the embedded SIM card.
The new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are powered by the 2.9-litre TFSI V6 engine with twin turbochargers, developing an immense 331 kW of power and a whopping 600Nm of torque from 1,900 – 5,000 rpm. Two turbochargers sit within the 90-degree vee, and the engine utilises the innovative B-cycle combustion process for maximum performance efficiency. Both RS 5 models can sprint to 100 km/h from rest in just 3.9 seconds, with the RS 4 Avant clocking 4.1 sec, before all reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h. Fuel consumption is 9.5 L/100km and 9.4 L/100km for the RS 4 and RS 5 models respectively, with CO2 emissions as low as 218 grams per kilometre for the RS 4 Avant, 215 grams per kilometre for the RS 5 Sportback, and 214 grams per kilometre for the RS 5 Coupé.
To further harness the exceptional power of the engine, the new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are equipped with a fast-shifting eight-speed tiptronic transmission, directing power to the road via the legendary Audi quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Under normal driving conditions, torque is distributed asymmetrically: 40:60, front to rear respectively. This provides the perfect platform for dynamic handling with optimal traction, however up to 85 percent of engine torque can be directed to the rear wheels for especially sporty handling. The quattro sport differential can provide further adjustment, directing almost all of the rear axle's torque to either wheel during particularly dynamic driving.
The new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are fitted with RS sport suspension and debut two new RS 1 and RS 2 modes within Audi Drive Select that can be quickly accessed via the steering wheel and configured for specific high-performance settings.
On top of this, the new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are further enhanced with a suite of safety features, including head-up display, 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go and traffic jam assist, park assist, Audi pre-sense front and rear, active lane assist, alarm and exterior mirrors with auto dimming functions.
The new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are offered with the comprehensive Audi service plan package, priced at $1,950 for three years or $3,050 for five years.
The new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback are generously equipped, with a selection of option packages available to further enhance individual customisation, including the matt aluminium styling package, the carbon and black styling package and the RS design package in red for the interior with Alcantara highlights. Select 20-inch wheel options are also available, including a special milled wheel available in matte bronze.
A selection of eight exterior colours are available on the new RS 4 Avant and the new RS 5 Coupé and Sportback, as well as three interior colours.
The new Audi RS Avant, RS 5 Sportback, and RS 5 Coupé will be available in Audi dealerships from 24th July for first customer deliveries, and will also be available to order through the new Audi online purchase platform, at audi.com.au
