Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles today shares further details of the forthcoming second generation Amarok ute, which commences Australian production in October for quarter one 2023 sale.
The new Amarok, designed by a factory team of 20 based in Melbourne, is built in South Africa. This reduces shipping times by some four weeks over the first generation 'Rok, most of which were built in Argentina. Greater frequency from port ensures steadier supply.
As revealed earlier this month, the new Amarok's exterior highlights include LED and LED matrix headlights, 350kg roof load, electric roll and lock and central locking tailgate, LED taillights, front tow hooks, AT and ATR tyre options, a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.
Within, the new Amarok continues the uniquely Volkswagen take on the truck with 8 or 12-inch digital cockpit; VW sports steering wheel with multi-function buttons; unique VW key and keyless start; 10 way electric seats; Harmon Kardon sound, leather wrapped dash, 10 or 12-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, e-shifter and electric parking brake.
Driver assistance packages in include multi-collision braking; emergency braking; light assist, speed limiter, traffic sign recognition, cruise control, ACCC plus, lane keeping assist, blindspot assist, auto parking, 360 degree camera, trailer assist.
Model grades, in ascending order, are:
- Amarok (2.0 4-cylinder 125kW/405Nm 6-speed manual diesel 4x4; or 6-speed auto 4x4 selectable auto)
- Life (2.0 4-cylinder 154kW/500Nm diesel 4x4 10-speed auto selectable)
- Style (3.0 6-cylinder 184kW/600Nm diesel 4x4 10-speed auto permanent
OR 2.0 4-cylinder 154kW/500Nm diesel 4x4 10 speed auto selectable)
- Pan-Americana (3.0 6-cylinder 184kW/600Nm diesel 4x4 10-speed auto permanent)
- Aventura (3.0 6-cylinder 184kW/600Nm diesel 4x4 10-speed auto permanent
OR 2.3 222kW/452Nm petrol 4x4 10-speed auto permanent)
There are six driving modes – Normal, Eco, Slippery, Snow/Sand, Mud/Rut, Tow/Haul. Driver assist and safety equipment are at the fore of the segment with some 20 of these available.
"Since the Amarok was globally revealed four weeks ago Volkswagen dealers have been beset by inquiries and customers intent on placing deposits," Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Ryan Davies said.
