Volkswagen has a $3000 factory bonus on remaining stock of its MY18 Golf R hatch and Wagon until March 31.
Some 200 examples of the MY18 R cars are with dealers nationwide. The normal production R range was trimmed to a fully-equipped hatch and Wagon variant last year. The campaign price represents by far the best value for the R in its current form.
The $3K discount on the driveway price available in your state or territory does not apply to the MY19 range that includes the Golf R Special Edition. All examples of this limited run (which features an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system among other unique fixtures) to have landed in Australia have been sold.
Shipping delays, however, mean that the remainder of Australia's allocation of 400 Special Editions - some 170 vehicles - are only now becoming available.
With a 213kW/380Nm tune of its EA888 2.0-litre turbo petrol four cylinder engine sending its output to all wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission, the Golf R hatch is capable of reaching 100km/h from standing in 4.8 seconds, the Wagon in 5.0.
"We call this range the R, we might equally call it 'Q'," says Volkswagen Group Australia's Director of Customer Experience and Marketing Jason Bradshaw. "Few cars approach the R's combination of understated design and assertive performance, nor its prestige level quality and specification.
"Livability and driveability are qualities not easily combined. The Rs are performance cars for grown-ups."
Elsewhere there is driveaway pricing on the Golf hatch, Wagon and Alltrack ranges, including $47,990 DA on the MY19 Golf GTI until March 31. The now entry level Golf Trendline hatch starts at $25,990 DA.
All new Volkswagens come with five year/unlimited kilometre warranty and 12 months roadside assist with the option of capped price servicing packages.
