Volkswagen's Golf range is consolidated from 19 to 12 permanent variants for 2019 representing the most popular versions with in-demand equipment packages.
The MY19 Golf hatchback, Golf Wagon, Golf Alltrack and the Golf Performance Range are in showrooms this month.
Selected new variants sold from today to December 31 inclusive have driveaway pricing. All new Volkswagens are covered by five year/unlimited kilometre warranty during this period.
The Golf Trendline becomes the range starting point with the deletion of the previous entry Golf 110TSI. The two Highline and one Alltrack diesel variants that were part of the Golf '7.5' range are not available for 2019 due to production constraints brought about by the introduction of WLTP testing in Europe.
"Volkswagen doesn't have to make big claims for the primacy of its best-selling range," said Volkswagen Australia General Manager of Product and Marketing, Ben Wilks.
"That the Golf remains the benchmark small car is reportorial fact. Customers agree with critics. More than 70 per cent of Golf sales are of variants priced at more than $30,000. The GTI and R continue to comprise some 25% of all Golf sales."
A total of 15,807, Golf hatches, Wagons and Alltracks have sold in 2018 to September 30 – a better than 2000 unit increase for the same period in 2017.
The GTI is the most significantly upgraded car in the MY19 Golf range.
It receives as standard the 180kW/370Nm tune of the 2.0-litre turbo petrol four, 7-speed wet-clutch DSG, electro-mechanical front differential lock and the ventilated front and rear disc brake package from the Golf R (as per last year's limited run GTI Performance Edition 1). The GTI also receives as standard the Active Info dashboard readout in addition to Driver Assistance Pack.
Four hundred examples of the Golf R Special Edition are on sale in November.
