Volkswagen is bolstering supply of the popular Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace medium SUV range with a third special edition – the Monochrome – saving customers up to $5,500 over the 162TSI R-Line on which they are based.
The Tiguan Monochrome and Tiguan Allspace Monochrome are available in 5 and 7 seats respectively, complementing other new special editions for 2022 - the Tiguan R Grid Edition and Tiguan Allspace Adventure 5 seat.
All of these special editions focus on offering greater supply of the most in-demand performance powertains.
As with the Tiguan Allspace Adventure 5 seat, the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace Monochrome utilises the 162kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo, 4MOTION all-wheel drive and 7 speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) powertrain.
The Monochrome focuses on moody, brooding style by combining complementary and contrasting design elements in light and shadow.
Compared with the 162TSI R-Line, the Monochrome uniquely includes 19" Valencia alloy wheels in glossy black, dark tinted rear windows (90%) and a black style package – black roof rails, upper grill, C-signature, lower rear bumper, mirror shells, rear spoiler window trims and side and rear strip trims
Other specification changes include 8" Discover Media infotainment system (replacing 9.2"), manually operated tailgate replaces an electric tailgate, ArtVelour and cloth R-Line seats (replacing leather upholstery with power adjustment), and the elimination of front seat and steering wheel heating (including rear outboard for Allspace), and high-grade LED tail-lights.
IQ.LIGHT with matrix adaptive high-beam and dynamic front indicators remains standard.
As with the MY23 162TSI R-Line, Side Assist with rear traffic alert is not currently available.
Priced from $53,390 plus on-road costs for the Tiguan Monochrome and $55,690 plus on-road costs for the Tiguan Allspace Monochrome, this represents a saving of $5,300 and $5,500 respectively on the 162TSI R-Line when equipped with metallic paint.
Metallic paint is included as standard on the Monochrome special edition, fittingly available in silver, grey, white and black exterior colours. The exception is a unique-to-Monochrome colour called Oryx White Pearlescent a three-layer paint with a deep pearl effect at $900 extra.
A panoramic sunroof is the only option at $2,100.
Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles brand director Michal Szeniecki said the Monochrome special edition was another way the brand was focused on providing customers with greater attainability and accessibility to popular products.
"Following the Touareg Monochrome in 2018, the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace Monochrome expertly blend alluring exterior styling with greater value," Mr Szaniecki said.
"The Monochrome, Tiguan Allspace Adventure, and Tiguan R Grid Edition also allow us to tailor packages that avoid lengthy wait times caused by semiconductor shortages, in a valuable special edition format for customers."
The Monochrome special edition is available to order now with first deliveries in January 2023.
