    Medal-winning performances extend beyond the Olympics!
    For the first time, the active safety performance of electric commercial vans has been assessed by ANCAP SAFETY in the latest round of Commercial Van Safety Comparison testing.
    - Taking out a GOLD medal is the electric LDV eDeliver 7. The electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter and eVito take a step higher on the podium with PLATINUM active safety performance.
    - Mercedes-Benz’s diesel-powered siblings, Sprinter and Vito, together with the Ford Transit Custom also achieve PLATINUM scores. The diesel LDV Deliver 9 scored GOLD.

    Toyota C-HR adds to list of top performers
    ANCAP SAFETY, Australasia’s independent voice on vehicle safety, today confirms a five-star safety rating for the new Toyota C-HR available in Australia and New Zealand.
    The all-hybrid line-up demonstrated solid safety performance assessed against 2023-2025 rating criteria, with the Toyota C-HR becoming the first model to be assigned a 2024 datestamp.

    Kia, Mercedes-Benz and BMW each achieve five stars
    Following testing against the latest 2023-2025 criteria, the Kia EV9, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and BMW 5 Series have each achieved five-star ANCAP safety ratings.
    The electric Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV scored maximum points for its protection of the driver in the side impact test, for the front seat passenger in the frontal offset test, and for the protection of child occupants in both the side impact and frontal offset tests.
    A centre airbag to protect front seat occupants in side impact crashes is fitted, however evidence to demonstrate that the airbag would protect a range of occupant sizes was not provided by the manufacturer and points for this area of assessment were not awarded.

    How safe was the car you drove in the 1990s?
    Taking stock of the past 30 years of independent vehicle safety testing, ANCAP reflects on the vehicle models first rated when testing began in 1993.
    Commonplace on Australia's roads at the time were the Ford Falcon, Mitsubishi Magna, Holden Commodore and Mazda 626 – just to name a few.
    These, together with the Honda Accord, Subaru Liberty, Nissan Pintara, Toyota Camry and Volvo 940 all featured in the first round of safety ratings released in 1993, in an effort to inform consumers about the safety features, or lack of, that were fitted to their everyday drives.

    ANCAP awards five-star safety rating to Mercedes-Benz EQS
    ANCAP SAFETY, Australasia's independent voice on vehicle safety, has today released a five-star safety rating for the battery electric Mercedes-Benz EQS saloon (sedan). The EQS showed high levels of protection to vehicle occupants and good collision avoidance capability when tested against ANCAP's 2020-2022 assessment criteria.
    Full points were awarded to the Mercedes-Benz EQS for adult occupant protection in both the side impact and oblique pole tests.  The driver and rear passenger in the full width frontal test also scored full points – making the EQS just the fourth vehicle to achieve this result under ANCAP's 2020-2022 test protocols. A high score in this test demonstrates a good combination of vehicle structure and restraint performance.

    Five-star ANCAP safety rating for MG 4 Electric.
    Australasia's independent voice on vehicle safety, ANCAP, has today released a five-star safety rating for the MG 4 Electric. The MG 4 Electric performed well across each aspect of ANCAP assessment under the 2020-2022 rating criteria.
    The MG 4 Electric is fitted with a range of collision avoidance technologies including autonomous emergency braking, active lane support, and fatigue monitoring. Good results were seen for its performance in AEB Cyclist and some AEB Car-to-Car test scenarios, including when turning across the path of an oncoming vehicle. Mixed results were seen in AEB Pedestrian test scenarios. AEB Backover functionality, designed to detect and respond to pedestrians in reverse, is not available.

    Chery re-enters the Australian market with improved safety
    ANCAP SAFETY, Australia and New Zealand's independent voice on vehicle safety, has today released a five star safety rating for the Chery Omoda 5 – some 12 years after the last ANCAP safety rating for a Chery model was released.
    Elevating its safety offering well above that of its predecessors, and to more stringent test and rating criteria, the Chery Omoda 5 offers sound levels of structural and active safety protection. Previous offerings - the Chery J11 (2 stars) and Chery J1 (3 stars) - achieved ANCAP safety ratings well below the expected standard when rated back in 2011.

    Alternative powertrains endorsed with five-star safety.
    Australian variants of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, hybrid variants of the GWM Haval Jolion, and battery electric variants of the Genesis GV70 and Genesis G80 have all been awarded five-star safety ratings by ANCAP, Australia and New Zealand's independent voice on vehicle safety.
    A five-star ANCAP safety rating for the Ford Mustang Mach-E battery electric vehicle was first published in December 2022 for New Zealand variants. With the Mustang Mach-E now available to Australian consumers, ANCAP has extended the rating for the Small SUV to cover Australian and New Zealand variants, excluding the GT.

    Mixed results for Jeep Grand Cherokee
    ANCAP SAFETY, the independent voice on vehicle safety for Australian and New Zealand consumers, has today released safety ratings for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
    Mixed results were seen in safety performance between variants, with the long-wheelbase (LWB) seven-seat 3.6 litre petrol (Jeep Grand Cherokee L) and the short-wheelbase (SWB) five-seat 2.0 litre PHEV both achieving maximum five- star ANCAP safety ratings.
